Along with the printer we include our own slicer designed to work with our double material system.
The Kodak 3D Slicer based on Cura is free to use and/or to download. Download from here
When the slicer is opened it will be configured to the slicer's "Default" profile, do not use this profile or any of the defaults.
Our printing profiles can be accessed by using the pull-down menu. these profiles have been specifically created for the Kodak Portrait sorted by material, quality and extruder.
This slicer will show the printing area available according to the extruder that we select in 3 different modes.
- Single material right (model labeled Orange)
- Single material left (model labeled Green)
- Dual material (model labeled Orange - Green)
When selecting the extruder and the profile the software will automatically enable the printing area to the user. Unavailable print areas will be displayed in dark grey.
NOTE: Remember to assign the extruder accordingly to the print profile selected, the extruder must always be assigned manually by the user. The first extruder will be assigned by default.
Example: Model assigned to Extruder 1 and PLA Tough profile selected

Example: Model assigned to Extruder 2 and PLA+ profile selected
Unavailable print areas are displayed in dark grey and correspond to :
- Unsafe areas which may trigger the tool switching mechanism of the printer accidentally (Right or left side depending on the selected extruder)
- External boundaries of the bed destined to the default "Build-plate adhesion" parameters in the profile selected (Skirt, Brim or Raft)
Example: Full bed size usage on an ABS profile, bed adhesion has been disabled manually.
Grey area on the left corresponds to the unavailable printing area for extruder 1 as it will trigger the activation of the tool changer and consequent dropping of the extruder 2.
Take into account that some profiles may show a smaller bed area than the apparent one since the profiles also include the perimeter distance in the use of settings such as brim, skirt or raft.
In this case, the user can modify the parameters of the bed-adhesion settings (take into account that this would be an experimental modification of the profile and could cause it not to operate as intended)
Example: boundaries set by the skirt parameter on a PLA Tough profile.
Example: boundaries set by the raft parameter on an ABS profile.
In cases of dual material printing, a printing section will be enabled in the middle of the bed, which will prevent the activation of the tool changer system involuntarily when printing with both extruders.
Here we will also observe the appearance of a circle which will denote the position of the prime tower in which the printer will purge before beginning with the printing of each layer.
TIP: The positioning of the prime tower is set by default but can be modified in these options by modifying the coordinates in case they interfere with the model.
Take into account the prime tower will display the same Build Plate adhesion settings as the model and will also be affected by them.
In case your operating system does not support KODAK Slicer, we recommend checking this link and download the latest Cura compatible version.
Kodak 3D has partnered with 3DPrinterOS to offer you a customized adaptation of the well-known slicer Cura: the Kodak 3D Slicer. Kodak 3D Slicer based on Cura is free to use and/or to download.
